That sucks man. Hopefully they make good on their replacement policy. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Senn's 2-year warranty should apply whether you bought it locally or not, as long as it's from an authorized dealer. Still, it makes me wary of buying a Senn HD5xx.

HD-580 headband foam shrinking or depleted already due to old age, had this w/ me since 1994, in the box all the time & just starting to use it presently. Will this be DIY fix or is there a repair kit sold for this kind of problem? Pasensya na guys late bloomer on the the headphone world  ;D

AFAIK the HD580 has more in common with the higher-end HD600 and HD650 than the HD558/HD598. And I believe the headband foam is replaceable. I don't know if you can get replacements locally though, so you might have to order online.

if  your budget is flexible enough for hd 6xx series, i suggest shoot for that, like hd 600. a lot of reviews tell hd 600 is really a value for your money. a lot of people here also "kinda" place hd 600 as a "reference" in comparing other HD products. though i did had a chance to own a pair of 558, compared it with 598, for me its more practical to own 558. just my opinion..

I actually prefer the old hd595 over the 558 so If the 558 has a similar tonality to the 598 then the 595 might be the keeper... plus it is cheaper!

I place rather heavy importance on vocals, and if i read correctly the midrange of the HD598 would be more suited to that. Also, i'm not looking for that much bass, just the right amount to make the sound have more body. I am looking to get the HD600 but might not be able to due to the difficulty of getting one (possibly not being able to find one in the near future) so i'm looking for somewhat a compromise. In addition to that, i might not be able to dish out as much cash as needed to buy an Amp/DAC setup in the $500 range just yet so i'm wary of shelling out even more for the HD650. What does intrigue me the most is the claim to fame of the HD598 being more "musical" as people like to call it having a more "fun" sounding signature. I would most likely start with something along the lines of a fiio e10 or an e17 to drive either. (still want the HD600 so bad thou)

why not hd580 bro? i think they are much better than the two headphones in this topic. very close to hd600. although they are kinda rare nowadays...

also, there is one 210usd used in head-fi or maybe ask the people in listening room to sell their only hd580 in there..

sorry for ot!

I heard Sforza's 598 a couple of nights ago and it is an acceptable alternative to the HD650. Plus it doesn't need amplification--warm and rumbly off the bat, with the trademark Senn headstage.

It currently retails for $250 on Amazon. How much are these locally again?

Around 14k, IIRC. Too close to the HD600 IMO, which is 14.7k from dinkoy last time I checked his TPC listings. Not sure if that has changed since Sennheiser US enforced the MAP more strictly though. I suppose it won't if he's not sourcing it from the US.
