Sennheiser HD598 and HD558
« on: August 30, 2010, 03:15:50 PM »
Sennheiser is announcing the HD 558 and HD 598 models at the IFA 2010 in Berlin.

HD 598

HD 558

They seem to be the HD 555 and HD 595 successors... maybe an HD 650 successor is in the works as well?  ;D

whoo-wee! they look like the super-comfy versions of their predecessors... so, is that the point of the +3 to their model numbers?

Meh, I'll pass - I never liked the HD555 and HD595, I doubt these will be any better. IMO Senn got lazy with these, they just used an existing design and changed up the colors. They would do well to strengthen the flimsy plastic on the headband assembly, I've read that quite a lot of people have had problems with cracking on theirs.

I'd have been more interested if they perhaps took from the strengths of their other headphones (e.g. the more rigid and durable construction of the HD6xx series) and came up with a new cup design ala the HD800.

Is it supposedly the same thing as the 555/595? Is it supposed to be improved?

Early impressions say these are a step-up from the 555/595's, hoping the Head-Fi meet would yield even more detailed reviews on these.

I don't know if i'm right but i think the HD650 and capable amp will be on a higher level than them.

i know they are but those can do for the meantime while saving up for the hd650. the hd650 would be power hungry so those would suffice for the meantime til i can get a amp than can drive the hd650.

I don't like the 598's tacky veneer, but I do love the brown velour pads.  ;D
