Pawbulous Pawstex (dogear's Fostex T50RP(v2) Orthos)
« on: August 09, 2010, 12:27:42 PM »
1. TN255723 has landed.

2. Some papers and a box.

3. Front of box

4. Back of box

5. Nothing fancy here. Suffocating the T50RPs.

6. Hurray! A removable cable port! Cable in

7. Cable out

8. I got V2 (revised earpads) \m/

9. Fostex!

Initial impression is that the mid-range sounds very very similar with the ATH0.15F (<- hurray for this little buggers, really!!!) but with more bass and treble extension. The mid-range hump is really nasty btw. Which confirms what was written at WikiPhonia:

Unmodified, the T50RP with the revised earpads sounds warm and slightly bassy with a lower midrange hump. The treble is a bit rolled off at the very top though very detailed. After modification (damping with felt and cotton) the bass becomes tight and fast and the rest of the frequency range is much flatter. Mids still have a warm and fluid coloration to them that is in no way unpleasant to my ears.

I've skimmed thru my Mozart to Metallica tracks already and it passed with flying notes :D

Congrats! Before you know it, you'll be looking for a YH-1000! Orthos really are addicting to look for. Start with a T20v2 (non RP) to accompany your T50RP ;) Or a Yammi ;) Just kidding! But feel free to do that!

Just don't look for an ID1. :D

Vintage is where it's at though! :D

Well it is if you have a tinkering spirit. Not too many people with the juevos to mess with a $900 headphone. It will undoubtably spank a perfectly dampened vintage headphone (although some will put up a good fight), but you won't have the same sense of accomplishment buying a headphone as opposed to working and learning. :D

^I hate to admit it but I'm with you on that... it's just that it's so hard to source vintage stuff here specially when you're stuck in the office most of the time!
Tinkering spirit?! I'm the tweaking beagle! :D Just waiting for the tweak tick to bite :D :D :D

When you have down time and have nothing better to do, scour ebay.com and ebay.de and ask if sellers ship internationally for some ortho goodness!

http://cgi.ebay.com/Yamaha-YH-1000-orthodynamic-headphones-RARE-/130418174683?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0 need some fixing up, but *drool*
