After reading a couple responses in this thread, I went to do a little A/B between the K and Q with a little help from Marvin of JBL.

I agree.  The Q is much better than the K.  Much more controlled and "full" lower frequency response and a wider sense of sound stage.  The mids sound a little more "hashed" as compared to the K's, but the K's are stringently clinical-counding, and yeah... lifeless, compared to the Q's.

My head must be pointy, the K701 and Q701 has this weird hard felt bump on top of my head, like a hard bound book weighed on my head, yet I touched the padding, it was soft!

I had that pressure on my head too. I think you have to let the pads clamp properly on the sides of the head to even out the pressure up top.

Check and make sure that the ear pads are placed properly.  They're actually wedge shaped, and should be slightly thicker at the base.  This helps pull the earphones a bit more across the side of your face (if you can imagine).  That should help relieve the pressure on the top of your head - otherwise, it's really there.

Umm, just to confirm. Is this an open-back headphone?

^lol K701's size and design is enough to make heads turn imo...  :D

but i think someone here at headphiles already did that right? i mean, he used the Mio as "portable" 'phones...

now try doing that in a Grado...  ::)

Actually, I consider Grado as well. But K701 is just jaw-dropping, plus I really like Mio LOL

Maybe I can get both some day  ::)

Is Fiio E11 enough to drive Mio?

More than enough power to drive with a big BUT. The e11 is not the the best pair with  the k701. It cannot give out the full range dynamics of the k. Used with the proper amp, i dont understand why a lot complain of the k having not so good bass body. This headphone was awesome!

I dont know if this is a typo or the whole post was a typo but I agree that this headphone "is" awesome... until you hear the older versions.. thus, turning "is" into "was" 8)

i really suggest to use a desktop amp, whether it is solid state, or tube-based amps when using the k701. i like the sound of tubes with the k701

E9 as a starting amp, and maybe the O2 as an mini-upgrade as it will sound great with the k701 according to some bros here. these two amps are great if you really dont want to spend alot (for now) on better amps.

as for portable amps, they say the XO2 sounds great with this one since it really gives bass (if you really need it) and the XO2 gives alot of power as well.

No typo. I am no grammarian but i intended to say in the past tense as the event was over and the chances of me replicating the event may not happen again. Unless i have the same rig to use with the k at my disposal.

Man, those amps are freakin expensive. High maintenance Mio is high.  :-\

Long burn-in hours + expensive amps made me think twice.

I'm actually interested to find out how a CLAS + Continental V2 + Q701 sounds to see if it works for my type of listening. That will probably be realized after I get hitched, if there's anything left in my wallet. :))

A direct comparison between my ipod classic (latest gen) and with it hooked up on a CLAS, gives a fuller cleaner sound, better instruments separation and wider soundstage. If you are going to get a continental v2, I can loan you the CLAS so you can hear it yourself and share your impressions.
