Bose OE2 Impressions
« on: February 10, 2012, 02:28:45 PM »

Today, I found out that PMC Greenbelt 3 removed all their other headphones on display and replaced them with the relatively new Bose OE2. I figured that I might as well try it while waiting for their service center area to call out my number, since asking Siri "what is the best headphone?" is always answered by "Bose OE2" :P The store price was around 9k pesos, I auditioned them for about 30 minutes with a lot of different genres using ALAC lossless files.

To get to the point, I loved how they sounded until I read the price tag. They had a very musical and fun sound to them from a U-shaped frequency response. I had a hard time putting them down. The way I'd describe them is that Bose set out to create a headphone that'd have the most "pop" sound they could manage, and would be enjoyable to the largest segment of consumers from the general public. When I listened to them in a more analytic manner, the cons started to show -- sometimes they had overly prominent treble on rock and metal music, small soundstage compared to full size headphones, emphasized but slightly uncontrolled and bloated bass compared to high end denons (and planars for that matter), quite hard to drive from portable sources like idevices. It could have been the best portable headphone on the market under 5k pesos, but they decided to charge double the price for whatever reason. I'd definitely be happy if someone gifted me with them though. They're small and foldable too :D

Has anyone else heard these?

Well, you could show them how serious you are in reviewing their headphones, by showing up with those 2 amps  :P , I bet that you would walk away with a complimentary set of TOTL Bose QC15 for that spectacle. ;D

So how much did Bose pay Apple for the Siri endorsement? :P

This sounds interesting though, but its typical Bose pricing.

Id looks like its pretty comfortable as well
If it looks bad CF it, If it sounds bad DENKO it!

The Siri answer I think is based on amazon rankings for satisfaction under the "headphone" product class. I guess Bose has pretty good SEO or e-marketing.

Yeah, it was really comfortable and it isolated a lot of noise too. The construction seemed to be more solid compared to the older Bose headphones, since they used heavier plastics and more metal for the frame this time.

in some shops, generally speaking,  they even tell you that you can only try it out if you've already paid for it :)

Funny if you ask Iris (Android version of Siri) what the best headphone is, she tells you without hesitation "Klipsch S4!"

I don't like the new design of the OE2, I much prefer the look and design of the old OE, less plastic body and more minimalistic look is better for me. This new one looks bulky. Also, where does this fold? I don't see any joint where the cups meet the headband.

I'd like to grab one of these though if it folds properly. I am still a bit of a Bose fan. Though 9k is still a bit too expensive.
