Cambridge Audio launch DacMagic 100

Due out soon this stripped down version of their popular dacmagic range is looking like a budget winner at around 12-15k max.

Quotes:

I don't think anyone saw this coming.  Having recently released the DAC + head-amped DacMagic Plus, the Cambridge Audio fellas have gone and made a stripped-backed version called the DacMagic 100.  It will launch this week at CES 2012.

Essentially this new 100 version is an update of the (2008) DacMagic that sparked the outboard DAC's latest renaissance.  An RRP of GBP199 will ensure this new, cheaper (!) iteration does likewise.  The 100 comes in a smaller chassis that its predecessor and is designed to size-complement the iD100 iPod dock.  Neato!  However, digital filters have been dropped.

Features:

New Wolfson WM8742 24-bit DAC
New 24-bit/96kHz driverless USB audio input – or up to 24-bit/192kHz using the free Cambridge Audio driver available from the company’s website
Three digital inputs: one optical, two coaxial
RCA analogue phono outputs
Incoming sampling rate indicator for 32/44.1/48/88.2/96/192kHz
Full metal chassis and wraparound casework with aluminium front panel

nice find marcus, it's cheaper than Schiit Bifrost DAC.
It looks good and build quality seems to be  high as well.
I am fine without the digital filters, I don't think I will use it anyway.

What we need now is review/impressions on how it performs, they should send a review unit for headfonics  :D
we remember, we forget.

if it is transparent then this is a good thing Erwin since its hooked directly to my meridian cdp 506 which is high end dac goodness :)

I do hope it is a good budget DAC Don, we need a few more of those for the market.  :)

Yes we definitely do! I am hoping it to be good also. The Cambridge players I heard and didn't like are the 640 and 740 by the way

I guess I'm just one for a little color, I like the colored sound of the i20. :)

Anyway I'll keep an eye out for this one a bit longer. If it's no good I'll probably end up getting a bit frost.

I get the feeling that the bitfrost is better but of course all will be revealed after listening :)

The Bifrost is actually entry level according to Schiit and new higher  level DAC's will be out this year. I also believe Cambridge has released a higher end dac/amp of the original Dacmagic also.

I think that one came out before this. There are already impressions on headfi. the amp section is supposedly mediocre but the dac is supposedly better than the old dacmagic.

I still hanker for two unbalanced and one balanced output from a good desktop dac - do any exist?
