ah It's really a challenge to find a full-sized equivalent of the ESW9s isn't it? it's either hard to find or too expensive, or both. :))

I think for me the esw9 and es10 is where I would apply the brakes unless Ken starts giving away his higher end editions :P

From what I read you now get a free $180 headphone stand when you buy the w3000nav edition

Yep, the Don is quite right, the L3k (aka "Leatherhead") is known to be one bass heavy beast, that's why I expected the W3k to share similar sound sig to its older sibling. And I've actually had the chance to listen to master Ken's W5k years before our beloved HeadPhiles.org ever existed, I've a pretty good idea how it sounds.

I'm sure if you'd search hard enough and are willing to spend a small fortune, an L3k can be had. ;)

Bass response on all high end ATH cans outside of the ESW/ES is almost always subdued - just ask Ken on this aspect lol..

I thought the W5000 (the red-headed step child)/W1000 were the odd ones out with subdued bass. From everything I've gathered, the others (maybe not the W2002, W10LTD, and W11R) have palpable bass, but not exactly bass monsters. And the L3000 is forever on my list of things to try.  ;D I wonder who thought green was a good color scheme for the 50 that were made as such though. They look even more like turtles.

The formula of headphone ownership satisfaction is oH = n+1, where "oH" is the optimal number of headphones you need and "n" is the number of headphones you currently own.

The original L3000 was brown

Anyway about the w3000, I wonder how they are supposed to differ in sound against the W1000X or the w1000 for example.

They really should have made some in black. Even 50, like the green ones, but I digress.

I wonder how the resale value of these will be. The older woodies tend to hover between $300-$600 for the W10VTG and $600-$1000 for the W11JPN, which is a bit more than they sold for. I'm hoping that these stay around the same price for my wallet's sake. If there's a Chicago meet soon, I'll probably have impressions for you guys since Skylab has a pair that he likes, so they won't be leaving.  ;D

The W1000/x seem to deviate from the limited ones, and the W3000's seem to improve on the previous limited ones, I think.
