My Neutrified Denkoed AKG K81
« on: October 10, 2011, 09:25:42 AM »
This is the fist time I upgraded a headphone, I did some repair work on some cheap headphones which I burned the driver, so cutting the wires on a perfectly working  headphones with barely a hunded hours on them was a bit scary. I kept saying to myself its only 3700 pesos, its only 3700 pesos as I cut the wires from the driver, after that there was no turning back as I go to the bathroom to change my underwear.

I can not comment on the sound as I use the HP at the office and brought it home for the upgrade.  I tested the HP on my kids player and the HP is easier to use as its no longer has 4 feet of extra cabling and the cable is a wee bit stiffer than the older one so its less likely to get tangled, that in itself is worth the cost/risk  of the upgrade and if the SQ improves thats just icing on the cake.

I added this info October 12
Listening Impression after three hours.

What I noticed immediately was the mid bass response, the sound was thicker.  I reckon the resolution was a bit higher as I could hear some high frequency detail that I could not hear before. Not sure if this  frequency band was enhanced or that the mid bass was cleaner allowing these details to be heard.

Here are photos of the finished work.

Thanks .

You can practice, CDR King almost has all the supplies that you need.  cheap headphones from 60 php , soldering iron  and the thing that sucks the solder  and cheap cables to practice on.  One thing to remember is  when cutting the wires  is to do it one at a time so that the other end of the wire will absorb the heat preventing the voice coil l from burning.

Congrats bro! Nice looking k81 on denko and neutrik angled plug.
3 converts of stock cable k81/518 to denko, 1 more on the wait. But only the 2 of us so far are on neutrik angled.  ;D

Thanks for sharing the angled plug, bro qguy!

But of course, impressions on the a/b cable please. :)

Thanks.  I see you changed yours from the Rean to the angled plugs.  I was about to use the Rean plugs but the Neutrik just looks really nice.  I did changed my sons  JBL 410 to the Silver Reans as his plugs was hanging by a thread  ;D

The silver cap rean with gold tip was real pretty on Akie. But for convenience purposes, I opted for the angled Neutrik. :)

Reading things like this tempts me to "denko-ify" my 242s, hehe. :P  Around how much would a mod like this cost on average?
