Actually, there may be manufacturing variances with the drivers--I've heard different pairs of the same AKG's sounding slightly different--or the dye affecting the sound. As strange as it sounds, dye may be able to affect the sound of the headphone slightly. (I forgot the explicit causes I discussed with Val Kolton, CEO of V-Moda, who said the white Crossfades had better bass control around 100hz than the black ones because of dye consistency/weight and sonic damping of the different colors. Kinda like a white shirt vs a dark shirt capturing light. I don't know how much I can trust him, but he wasn't selling me anything, so I feel compelled to). I can almost see his point though.

I like Alodia...
The formula of headphone ownership satisfaction is oH = n+1, where "oH" is the optimal number of headphones you need and "n" is the number of headphones you currently own.

That's my point though, they are the same - manufacturing variances are not that intentional IMHO and are not redesigns like the LCD-2 V2 or the Dt1350 on the T50P but simply the headphone has been made long enough for raw material suppliers to change, production QA to change etc. giving you minute variances that the K series driver can pick up on.

It can also make a mockery of the concerns of moving the production to China since the variances happened when it was still Made in Austria.

Well, it is kinda silly when you think of the ridiculous number of K701s that sold in Japan after Mio first appeared with them on K-ON!  It speaks something of its cult pop status, but you can't say that its sleek white looks aren't at the least appealing. :)

I personally like the white with red-brown leather accent very much.  The stand is pretty much useless imo. :P

I totally agree bro it is the better looking one but for audiophiles the 702 should have more weight because of the cable rolling options IMHO :)

So that's who mio is. Well this proves that product endorsement(or you can say hype) really works even in any form. That's why the Q701 even exists right Quincy Jones. hehe.

I was turned off when i heard Alodia's voice. have you heard her speak?... don't know why. nothing personal.
I like Ashley more, I got to know first before Alodia anyway during my Deviantart days.

These two looks quite poisonous. I now have this weird urge to buy both units from Audiophile using my 13th month pay. Even weirder, I don't even need one (or two for that matter) since I'm using headphones half the time in the office, not at home. Poisonous...really poisonous....

...or is it Mio who's poisonous?

Probably both. D:

But these headphones only get really poisonous if you've got some good power to feed it.  They can be quite demanding, as I've noticed from auditioning them with different amps.  Still, I'm quite dead set on owning a pair, lest that make you want to get them even more. :)

I'm actually tempted to get a Q701, just to see if my quibbles with them can be fixed...I didn't even like them when I tried them, but they look so purty.

Since the Q701 was mentioned here, I thought I'd share some impressions and how they compare to the K701.

Minimal, if not trivial differences - as far as SQ is concerned.

The lows might have sounded a bit richer and "warm" than my initial audition of the K701, but I attribute this to the fact that I auditioned the Q701 earlier with an H/K AVR 345, which is a notably dark amp.  The K701 I auditioned used an E9, which is rather dry for my tastes.

Regardless, it has the same richness in the mids and the unmistakably clean high with a hint of sparkle - everything that I want.

The only reason why I seem to be leaning towards the K701 over the Q701 has much to do with the possibility of going for a balanced set up in the future.  Though the Q701 was designed after the K702 with its detachable XLR cable, it doesn't have a rubber stopper on the opposite driver cup for a dual-wire setup.  I figured this had much to do with the fact that there was already an XLR port to begin with, so I guess we're left to simply rolling a single cable and having to settle with the internal wires that connect the two drivers via the head band.

I'm quite confident that I may go towards a balanced setup in the future, possibly starting off with the K701 - so I'll stick with it on that regard.  Besides, nothing's stopping me from modding out the wire to an XLR out on both sides for some serious cable rolling. :D
