Since the Q701 was mentioned here, I thought I'd share some impressions and how they compare to the K701.
Minimal, if not trivial differences - as far as SQ is concerned.
The lows might have sounded a bit richer and "warm" than my initial audition of the K701, but I attribute this to the fact that I auditioned the Q701 earlier with an H/K AVR 345, which is a notably dark amp. The K701 I auditioned used an E9, which is rather dry for my tastes.
Regardless, it has the same richness in the mids and the unmistakably clean high with a hint of sparkle - everything that I want.
The only reason why I seem to be leaning towards the K701 over the Q701 has much to do with the possibility of going for a balanced set up in the future. Though the Q701 was designed after the K702 with its detachable XLR cable, it doesn't have a rubber stopper on the opposite driver cup for a dual-wire setup. I figured this had much to do with the fact that there was already an XLR port to begin with, so I guess we're left to simply rolling a single cable and having to settle with the internal wires that connect the two drivers via the head band.
I'm quite confident that I may go towards a balanced setup in the future, possibly starting off with the K701 - so I'll stick with it on that regard. Besides, nothing's stopping me from modding out the wire to an XLR out on both sides for some serious cable rolling.
