Why K701 over K702?

Everytime i ask audiophiles which is better between the 701 and 702, every single one says to me the 701 is better and i should get it instead the 702. I don't get it at all. They say that there are no difference in sound quality. In that case, wouldn't the 702 be better since it has removable cables, a little cheaper, and comes in black (I'm not an apple user so white doesn't suit me). How about amplification?

It's just like choosing between the unbuttoned and buttoned RS1. The former is newer but does not necessarily sound better than the older one in most cases.

There seems to be a slight difference in their frequency curves:



That "bump" in the far end of the high spectrum might translate to more "sparkle", but practically speaking I don't think these will make a very noticeable difference in listening as far as SQ is concerned.  They'll be similar, if not indiscernible.

The choice between the K701 and k702 is more on :

A. Aesthetics (white Vs black)
B. Cable rolling

The sound of the two is pretty similar to me, I did not do an AB but you are not going to get a significant difference. I have heard that the K702 is brighter, but have not confirmed with my own ears.

there is zero difference really. lot of people will say the 702 and Q701 fixes the artificial midrange and soundstage but i think it's just bunch of placebo effect at work. i would personally get the 702 just for the detachable cable. makes DIY cabling very easy and swappable if your into that kind of thing.

Wait, i forgot about the Q701. So you mean to say that it's also almost similar with the K701 and K702? Cus i really dig the Q701's aesthetics. and only for that reason hehe.

These are one and the same - the fq chart is a load of baloney in some ways - one could have been brand new and the other about 1 year of burn in, different pads etc... It has been discussed here that certain production runs of the K series have had slight differences but I highly doubt if they had been planned - maybe a change of driver manufacturer here and there over the years if raw materials suppliers get changed or cease to trade.

I had the K702 - sounded more or less the same as the k701. I bought the 702 due to the potential of cable rolling before arnoldc snaffled it last year lol.

Most people like the K701 one here because it is white and nice looking and has a lovely little tray - that's about it.

And for some people, the fact that Mio from K-On wears a K701 is a big factor.

White is just schmexy, but the cables and less dirt-prone exterior of the 702 are great practical improvements.

BTT: the 701 and 702 are the same no matter what snake oil is thrown at this - one with cable rolling and the other with a nice shiny white tray.

the one you pick will just come down to looks or cables as the price is almost the same on amazon also.

The q series I have less exposure to so cant say if this is the same.
