My my, magnesium alloy? Just like my camera! Cool.

Excellent impressions. Looks like this'll be a reference headphone sooner or later. :)

Does the box say made in Thailand bro?

Yes its made in thailand. I like this better than lcd2 and he4  ;)

...and now I want these again.   ;D

To hell with it. I'm getting a pair next month (if the price goes down to $300 again. They're currently $400. Might as well save up the extra $50 for the W1000X if it's that much) and modding it to how I like if I don't instantly love it.

I wonder how its little brother the ZX700 sounds compared to the Z1000.

Capacity (mW) - 2000
Driver unit (mm) - 50 (Dome type)
Diaphragm - PET
Frequency (Hz) - 5 - 40,000
Sensitivity (dB/mW) - 106
Magnet - Neodymium
Impedance (Ohm) - 24

Still hesitant with spending on a high-end closed can so I'm just testing the waters for now.
Cans: AKG Q701|ATH-AD700/ON303/T200|Grado RS1/HF2|HiSoundAudio PAA-1 Pro|Sennheiser PX100|Yuin PK1
Amps/DACs: AMB Minił HP/ER|FiiO E6|iBasso D12|Millett Hybrid MiniMAX

If you can wait till the middle of September I'll probably have a strict Headfonics-worthy review by then.

Ciao! Welcome to Headphiles.  8)

We have members with this heaphone for sure. I have tested it for a good 5 minutes only.
The Sony Z1000 is a very clean sounding headphone. Fairly Neutral, without hearing traces of coloration. As a studio/recording/monitoring headphone, as a note to myself, this headphone delivers how a music tract truly is.
Although for the moment i cannot give any other notes regarding as my recall tends to the Beyedynamic DT-48 and the AKG K24DF.
I think I need to have another session with this Z1000 eh?  :)

like what dyaems said.. the shrill highs or sibilance will disappear once you learn how to wear the ex1000s.. there was no problem with the highs with me after i've learned the perfect fit and insertion of it...

the smaller tips for me, the more it goes through your ear but with larger tips the lesser it can get inside, sibilance become an issue..

of all the iems i've heard, they have the most realistic highs for me and presentation starting with the bass..
Compared with the Z1000 which is their fullsize, the highs are also hot, so how would you solve that? I think it is very possible to reduce the highs by deeper insertions but the Sonys both have the same issues and I don't think it is just a matter of False fitness.

Ah, but could Sir Ken care to share his views on them? Recabling is also an option, what about the setup? Probably he had the same setup for the AKG K340 which has similar highs albeit not as hot. Smooth wasn't in the original listen with my setup, though.

i tried the z1000 out of headphone out of t51 and it sounds balanced. tried it with t51 and modded g2 highs were extended and became more airy, and lows became controlled.

If that's the case, then I can call this pair, a chameleon, very high end and needs time and patience to match. Possibly a keeper once you have found the right combination.

Ot..
On mundorf the z1000 was very smooth and i cant stop using. It was sparkly but not hot. And of course, it is not technically balanced per se, slightly laid back mids. Otherwise, it was a very good pair. Stock cable need replacement.

I don't think this is off topic, as they have the same characteristics, but like what i said, it will be a challenge to find the right combination to make them work well. Did you find the K340 similar? Am seriously contemplating removing the electrets section, and to make them pure sextets.
