There's a distinct lack of mention for this particular pair of clip-ons. So I thought I'd give everyone my impressions on it. My EM7s are directly driven from my source, in this case an iPod Touch 2G 32gb. Basing all of this around various tracks such as:
Angels and Airwaves - Everything's Magic
Angels and Airwaves - Love Like Rockets
Switchfoot- This is your Life
Houkago Tea Time - Tenshi ni Fureta yo!
Build: The aluminum keeps these clip-ons light while also being quite sturdy. The surface of the aluminum is quite rough (I believe it's supposed to be) and scratch resistant.
Comfort: Very comfortable. The rubber really keeps the wire from being uncomfortable while serving it's purpose. AT says you can wear them for a long time with minimal fatigue. That statement is completely true.
Sound: Let me say now, they're not for bass heads. These cans really lack in the bass departement. The bass is there, and it is pretty punchy but it's also recessed. The mids seem to be emphasized , it's quite clear and very detailed. The highs are also quite nice, but it tends to get pretty screechy with certain tracks like "Tenshi ni Fureta yo!". The soundstage is really spacious, it makes Angels and Airwaves songs sound great. Really capturing their space rock genre nicely. It really sounds like your in a small concert hall when listening through these.
Isolation: Little isolation, the volume has to be turned up quite high when in crowded places. These leak alot of noise. So try to turn the volume down in quiet places.
All in all, these cans are pleasing to listen to as long as you can ignore the lack of bass.
With the Fiio E11: The sound really improves when paired with the FiiO E11. Overall the sound darkens a bit making the highs more tolerable when listening to particularly bright recordings. And with the variable Bass Boost you can get an acceptable amount of bass. Not bass-head level bass, but good enough. Clarity is further increased, revealing small details you wouldn't have noticed without the amp. Soundstage got a little bit tighter but nothing big. All in all, pairing the EM7 with the E11 was the best decision I ever made thus far.
