Would you guys recommend Fiio e11 portable amp with this?

it depends on the source bro. but SJ55 sounds neutral to me so if you're craving for more bass quantity then E11 should synergize well with SJ55.

I find the SJ55 kind of dark for my taste. Using E11 will just add another darkness in it :D. But yeah if you are too to hot on bass, E11 is not a bad amp to go :D. But that's just me  8)

My souce is IPT4g. Only the bass would be improve? Although i'm considering the bass enhancement, but not that too overwhelming.

I tried the sj55 out at glorietta earlier. I should've paired it with the e11 while I was at it. :( It was pretty prominent on the midbass, but not much extension down below. There's this weird dip in the mid area that made it sound scooped out a little. Cranking the volume made it more fun but it was still pretty noticable.

So E11 is not advisable pairing with sj55? Any recommendation for any portable amp? 3k less, have a tight budget. :(

English please, and read the rules if possible....and perhaps the rest of this thread as several people have already been given notifications with this regard.

It depends on your amp. If you're going to use a fiio, probably not much since the internal amp of the iphone is pretty good already to begin with.

The SJ series goes well with fiio e6 especially the treble boost (the blue light)

You don't really need to amp the SJ55. the headphones are meant to be used on apple products anyway and it's pretty sensitive enough to power it.

I am surprised to see that this SJ55 sounds neutral to some, maybe if you compare them to the AKG K18DJ it will sound neutral. But, if you are going to compare this headphone to a vast variety, this is far from neutral. This headphone rather have a "U" shaped frequency like Pioneer's DJ headphones. For a portable these are heavy on bass (cancels vibration through the aluminum sealing), recessed mids, and sparkly highs. Quite evident in showing sibilance in some tunes.

Technically, a neutral sounding portable is so hard to achieve, the hd25s maybe the closest one, but it is still colored. a dark sounding portable is easier to achieve i.e. hd25spii, aiaia tma-1, pro500mk2, px100.

And, with amps? You really don't need to amp this type of headphone, it is well-designed for portable players. If you want to take advantage of portables amps, atleast a midrange headphone will do. It will add detail, robustness, overall tighter low-ends. For an entry-level headphone, this is one of the better choices for a wide variety of music.

I'm thinking of getting ath-sj55 for its look, if it is dark then I'm out. ^_^

Hi Asunta,

the SJ-55 is not dark. For me the bass is punchy, at the same time the mids and highs are well presented. It is far brom being neutral but i had fun listening to it though.

Will an amp be needed? depends. If you are for the volume, no. IF your amp is magical, use it. You will be pleased you did.  :)
