Audio Technica ES10
« on: June 27, 2011, 02:28:19 AM »
Can't find a thread about this headphone in the forums. I'm currently in a decision between the es10 or the hd650. Maybe this thread could help me decide. Post your insights also the current retail price of both headphones. Thanks in advance!

buy both. HD650 for easy and laidback listening at home, ES10 for your bass needs and if youre on the go  :)

ES10 should be more expensive to acquire but not by much, I happen to have one. It's one of the best portables in the market right now.

It's definitely not similar to the HD650 at all having a V-shaped sound signature which means big boomy basshead levels of bass and prominent treble. Mids take a backseat but not by much. They are still prominent and very energetic in presentation.

These have 70mm drivers (I believe) which are larger than what your normal portable can has, they are comfortable to the head as well and all I can say about the sound is that these are "big"

Can't go wrong with these cans, they are very good portables but they are definitely not like the HD650 at all

Thanks for the quick inputs, i think ill go for the es10 first since most of the sellers tell me that they need to import the item directly from japan. As for the hd650 which is widely available in most local shops here in nyc

If you decide to get these keep in mind that they are a step up from the ES7 but they will have some similarities as well. So if you like the sound signature of the ES7 these would be indeed be an upgrade :)

I notice that you sacrificed all of your gear though :P I hope you will be happy with the upgrade if you go for these. I am saying these are definitely Great, but if it will be "I sold all my other headphones for this" great will be for you to decide.

i still say go get both cans, haha..but if i were to choose between the 2, ill go for the HD650 and get a Schiit amp, i love that combo when Collie bought it on of our meets. The HD650 synergize really well with it  :)

Nope, 53mm

I really want to try the ES10's. They sound like they'd be my perfect portable (well, either this or the Sony Z1000, even though they look to sound totally different). There's on on HF for $300, and the Z1000 is sold for $300 at Provantage. Dang, I wish I had $300 to spare. Or better yet, $600...
The formula of headphone ownership satisfaction is oH = n+1, where "oH" is the optimal number of headphones you need and "n" is the number of headphones you currently own.

heard Kalikot's es10 last jaben meet and i love it paired with my x02, i do prefer it over the m50, sony XBxxx and other closed potable can during the meet that i've tried. The price (bnew) is a turn off for me though...lol...;D
