Nice idea, but it sounds to cumbersome to do when using sr80i as portable. Yes, i pull out my sr80i out of the bag while inside the MRT with one hands holding on the railings.  ;D

Well if you insist on storing your 80i haphazardly, then twisted cables are exactly what you're going to end up with every time.  :)

depends on what cable you're gonna use. I usually recable for aesthetics and flexibility and to keep the stock cables like almost new

Is SR80i an open-back headphone?

I love my K701. But I really can't stand the sound it produces when playing rock and metal.

I am considering the Grado sound for my rock and metal songs. Maybe the SR80i is a nice start?

Could you describe what exactly is the sound you can't stand when your K701 plays rock/metal?

Have you heard the SR80i? :)

well i listen mostly to guitar driven rock/metal and instrumentals. I feel that the distorted guitar sound sounds too clean with my K701. The sound also feels "distant".

But for other genres like jazz,acoustic,classical,pop, etc. I love my K701 to death  :)

No. i haven't heard any Grado headphone but I read that they excel in rock/metal so I am considering them. Well I mainly use my D1100 for my rock/metal tracks but I find them to have too much bass for my taste and the mids is quite distant.

@BryanC

yep, Grado is excellent for rock, especially with its detailed highs that will really make the guitars stand out...   :)

for that i recommend trying out SR60i and SR80i at Acoustic Dimension in Rockwell (but don't buy!)...

then you'll know if the Grado sound is just right for you...

btw, does AD have demo units for the Alessandro line?

There will definitely be more bite, crunch, and presence if it's your first time hearing a Grado. Compared to the K701 though, a Grado will have zero soundstage. But reading that you find the D1100 too bassy and hollowed out in the middle, a Grado might just fill the void in your arsenal.

I asked the owner. They never had, and never will.  ???
