Grado Prestige Series SR80/SR80i
« on: July 15, 2010, 06:05:10 PM »
SR80/SR80i love and general discussion.

I remember getting my pair only last year. Supposed to get the SR60i but instead got the 80i--such is the way of selling at Acoustic Dimension. Wasn't a forumer yet so I didn't know any better. The plug became loose after a couple of months but it was reterminated free of charge, though it doesn't look as snazzy as the original plug anymore.

These are the Grados I grew up with, that have poisoned me continuously about what the higher tier models have to offer, whose cups I have scratched without a care but have now learned to watch out for. These are the Grados I take outdoors, they're just too much fun to listen to out of the FiiO E5. These are the Grados that put me to sleep at night, satisfied.

Being that the HF2 is the "black sheep" of the Grado family (being non-fatiguing and bassier), the SR80i's are a keeper for when I want to listen to that raw, aggressive house sound again.

Ahhh yes, the SR80's were my first foray into Grados as well. I instantly fell in love with their forward presentation of the mids, which made metal sound even more threatening! From that point forward I yearned for that trademark Grado aggression, which led me to the SR325is, and pretty soon, the RS1i.  ;D

My first ever good headphones, they still see the majority of my home use, along with the DT770/2005. They were my gateway to poison.  ;D

SR80i is also my first audiophile grade cans, i got them from bro emon.. he bought it brand new and only used them for 2weeks, luck me. ;D quite fatiguing for long listening sessions.
