Bass is not what you are looking for in a movie headphone - you need sound stage, detail and really good imaging. Believe it or not deep bass on a movie is not essential for the enjoyment of the movie. I use Stax all the time for movies and before that the K702 since both were the most articulate headphones I had in my collection with the best sound stages that could give me the most involving experience with my movies.

for a movie HP yes i agree, so it's a toss between K702 or HD600 then? From my speaker experience, a speaker good in audio will also excel in movies  ;D

Very subjective in terms of what is good - I found I wanted very different things in audio reproduction and movie reproduction. I want pure accuracy for my movies and some types of audio and in others I enjoyed a very colored reproduction for pure enjoyment of bass tracks.

I would go for the 702 on the movies but that is simply because of my own personal experience with them.

Hmmm, HD600 vs K702 for movies?

I have to first like the headphones a little with music to begin with before using them with movies. I don't like the akgs at all because of its artificial sounding timbre so its the hd600 all the way for me. The stax 202 was better than the hd600 though with movies.

Actually my first recommendation is as Don has said - get a cheap stax system for movies, you can't go wrong and will cost you around 20k or so :) headfi sales is where you can get the best stuff.

The 702 I enjoyed but then I suspect I might enjoy the 600 also :P

might be wrong thread then, but will toss between HD600 and K702... heard both in two separate occasions, and will say that "liked" HD600 more than K702... hmmm, time to sell the Hd595  ;D ;D ;D

The HD600 is very very similar to the HD650. I don't think you'd need a dedicated "movie" headphone. The HD650 has excellent imaging and is a great choice for atmospheric sounds and dialogue.

Also, I used to have the K701 and tried it for movies many times. It has great soundstage, but has wonky imaging. What I mean is, the soundstage is a little too large for me, that everything seems so spaced out and disjointed. The AD700 is a better positional headphone IMO.

good insight as well, it may be only a "want" rather than a need... will sleep on it and see if i still "want" a dedicated movie HP in the morning  :)

Nah, I'm not really a Stax person... I like my sound thick and heavy.

The O2 on the other hand...

Between the two, I'd get the K701 for a "different" sound, since I find the HD600 far too similar to the HD650 to justify getting both.

Unless you're Mikado.

Hmm if you get the 702 though (and can forgo the white fetish) then you can roll the cables in time to get the 'sound' you want so to speak.
