comparison between M50 and Pro700 Mk2

Quote
LoL. Sorry for missing that out guys.

The reason that I didn't even bother comparing the Pro700 to the M-50 is that the two headphones are so different from each other.

The Pro700 Mk2 is a purebred basshead headphone, while the ATH M-50 is closer to a studio monitoring headphone that happens to have good bass quantity. The tonal balance of the M-50 is quite proper, with treble, mids and bass all taking roughly similar proportions. The Pro700 Mk2 is so seriously skewed to the bass regions, it's probably one of the most colored headphones I've ever listened to.

The M-50 has good bass punch, but presented in that wide soundstage, the focus and the impact seems lost. The HD25-1 is better in this regard, as the smaller soundstage helps focus the impact of the bass. The two headphones' bass, however, sounds puny in comparison to the Pro700 Mk2.

Bass to the power of TWO -- yeah!!!!

1 question though, when they say the coiled cables is 1.2m long does that mean extended or retracted?

Coiled cables are usually measured unstretched.

The jack on the headphone isn't proprietary (it just has a screw thread), so DIY cables are the answer to your problem.  :D

I'm not familiar with the Deeco plugs.

I did a quick search on where to get locking 3.5mm stereo plugs and so far I got nothin' but pics. :P

I bet you can actually just sneak a thin cable into the headphone slot without screwing. The Cable that came with the Beats headphones or the one I gave to Jai with the Denon NC732 most likely will fit without problems.

I'm still also totally dubious of the comments from Headfonia. The m50s most definitely do not have wide soundstage.

I hope 2rooi is still gonna sell the XB1000s. I still want them.

From what I've gathered though on HeadFi, the XB1000s aren't uber bassy.  The bassiest of the XB line is actually the XB500. As you go up the ladder the bass gets more refined but lesser in quantity. That is certainly the case with the XB700 against the XB500, so I've heard.

Anyway let's just wait for Marcus to get his sample of the MkII, then we will have a basshead meet. :)

:D Sample come to me haha... hopefully next month and I bring these plus the esmooth woodies to a meet for demo testing

Puzzled also on the sound stage comment also from Mike (HF) on the M50, the reverb from a closed can might seem you have that 'hall effect' but not a big soundstage for sure.

As for Dj'ing with a pro700 MK2 I am not so sure on that, Dj's need something that ideally can allow them to sync tracks harmoniously from one to the next using the beats so bass has to be tight and accurate - I hope the coloration on these does not loose that tightness - i.e. flabby.

I do expect these to be very much on the fun side  ;D
