I hope so also, but not in coffee shop lol.. too dangerous and noisey, I really am being very careful with these even though they look fairly durable.
Ken count me in when you get your aluminum hinges engineered ;)

You're Stax with what you have.

I think you can use other ES amps as long as the bias match.

yep, that is true, but now I have two micro systems - dynamic and electrostatic.

the decisions will be two fold now  :-\

There's an SR84 in Head-Fi for about $120, and it comes with an SRD4 adapter. I'm contemplating getting it, but I don't have a speaker amp anymore, so I'd have to shop for another one. Just a few questions:

1) Can I do this:  CDP fixed level signal > power amp > Stax SRD4, that way I won't have 2 pots in the signal path? Or should I still use a preamp or variable output from the CDP? I was thinking this because I saw some interesting poweramps for sale in the forums, like a Quad for 8k. Roughly the same price as a Marantz Class A integrated.

2) Would a $50 T-Amp with 8watts per channel drive these well or I should really go for a bigger amp? I'm hoping for 25wpc Class A, Marantz or a (scratched up but fixable with spray paint) Musical Fidelity A1.

eagerly anticipating your impressions on the stax beauties Marcus :)

interested whether you find them bass light or not, because this vintage set of mine is not bass deficient in any way as i had expected...

and i picked something up while reading across our forum this morning, and hooked up the mk2 as preamp after the udac and fed the input to the srm-1... quick impressions: highs tamed better, i likey! :D

i also found out thanks to the udac i can have a usb output, and use my soundcard direct to the c-2c to directly compare the stax (usb -> udac -> ld mk-2 -> srm-1 -> lambda pro) to my dynamic cans (xonar -> c-2c -> beyer / senn)... it's going to be a lovely weekend :)

i been auditioning pair of stax 2020 basic II system(SR-202 and SRM-212) from a kind loaner and have it for couple months. so i actually love them and even though they lack air and some upper treble region they manage to pick out every detail with very quick transients. he was always curious how they stack up to quick dynamics like the SA5000 cause i have a pair of balanced SA5000's i love a lot and greatly enjoy. even though i love the midrange tonality a lot and it's very fast transients i found my SA5000 easily keeping up with the SR-202 and out pacing it in everything i threw at it. this when i knew actually when people meant bout ''electrostatic speed'' since i had a chance to compare pair of stax. i found the bass perfect on the sr-202 but it was of course using a pair of stax lambda ear pads instead so that might be it.

the imaging/air and soundstage was better on my sa5000 as well. i do enjoy the sr-202 a lot though and main stax i want to try is pair of older lambda pros cause i heard those might have the ''air'' i'm looking for cause after the 240DF and SA5000 i appreciate a good air response(14khz and above is where air is). i heard they have better bass as well but that's not my number 1 priority and i could live with the bass of the sr-202 cause it sealed well on my head and offered good amount of kick/impact for electronic music and kick drums.

if curious my set-up for auditioning was my own and was:

echo audiofire 2 > H/K 725 preamp > H/K 770 dual-mono power amp > balanced Sony SA5000 on speaker outputs

echo audiofire 2 > H/K 725 preamp > SRM-212 > SR-202

SA5k is one of the fastest dynamic headphones, probably similar to an HE-6 in speed.

i never heard the HE-6 before so i wouldn't know. i might be getting a chance to hear pair of lambda pros in the near future after i send the sr-202's back cause the owner said it was perfectly cool loaning the lambda's to me to give them a try so i'm excited. i still have the sr-202's on hand for little bit more time. anyone here heard the lambda pro? thing i'm looking forward after reading about them is they have a good amount of air to them compared to other stax. i wonder if it's comparable to the SA5000's ''air'' cause the SA5000 has very good air response.
