Hifiman HE500 (HE6p)

Hifiman HE500

Out in a few weeks apparently from the time of writing, for those wanting a slightly more flexible or mobile setup Hifiman have made a more efficient orthdynamic headphone in their HE range called the HE500 (formerly the HE6P).

This is the pic when it was originally supposed to be the HE6p

Retailing at around $900 from Head Direct this is being pushed as a less power hungry version of the HE6. Some initial reviews on the prototype mentioned that volume could be achieved on a lowly iphone 4 out of the headphone jack but better results on higher amp'ed DAP's such as the HM801 (maybe even the HM602 looking at these pics).

Hmm... hm602 and he6p madness!!

Not much to report just yet on specs or reviews but will shout back if I spot any - Sherwin? You want a portable Hifiman to go with that hm602? This could be it!

Oh wow.. $45 more and we get an LCD2, they'd better make it as excellent as it should be.

the He4 at $450 is surprisingly harder to drive than the HE500 by someone's comment at that show. Cant find the quote even though I read it 20 minutes ago lol..

Yeah this one I dont get the logic clearly. A marketing strategy perhaps so people would buy the expensive EF5. :-\

don't forget to add $150 shipping to the lcd-2 price. Everyone forgets that the box is 22lb out of JAC (22 x 7) plus shipping to your JAC office is not free either.

I bought the HE6 plus ef5 on the combi deal at $1299 free shipping and the lcd-2 on its own to get here was coming in at around $1100 - 1150.

If Head Direct give this out at an introductory price with like $20 to free shipping to here then its going to be a lot cheaper.

Still if you have a buddy in the US then the lcd-2 becomes cheaper also if they walk it through the airport lol

I see it as a copy of the Beyer t1 and t5p strategy bro - even down to the tagging of the P onto the end of the flagship which I think the HE500 now does away with (maybe Beyer had a word with Fang???)

Hmm this is indeed interesting and definitely another option. I honestly want to hear the HE6 first before giving my impressions on the Hifiman orthos. I still am hard pressed to find people saying something is now better sounding than the LCD2 so I am a bit skeptical but I must hear the HE6 myself before anything happens!  8)

If someone should get these babies, I would be very much excited to pit it against the almost half priced Smeggy Thunderpants which I am expecting sometime first week of April to get here. It's nice to see indeed that Fang is using the 602 to showcase the sound of these HE6p...

Yummy! It's a bit risky to be an early adopter on hifiman products. For all we know, 4 months after release they'll have a much more refined version of this product. It makes sense to make the ortho technology much more efficient.

early adoption meant $200 discount on HE6... call me old fashioned  :P

Lol! I call you lucky! Early adoption for me impulsivity. Haha! The he5le to he6 saga still makes me wary.

Quite the lineup now with the HE4 V shaped fun sq and this easy to drive one. I would like them to look a bit more different though since this would add to the desirability.
