How are Grado's aggressive anyway? I mean in what sense are they aggressive? Haven't really taken this brand seriously since they are open so not familiar with the signature.

Fast decay of notes, sharp attack, generally in-your-face midrange and treble-centric sound, small soundstage - guess these are the reasons why people call Grado aggressive. I've always felt they sounded best with tubes (the TTVJ Millett for example, or the Littile Dot variants).

Warm sig amps. :) I like the Ibassos for them. I don't know why.

I love the synergy between an AMB Labs Mini^3 and Alessandro MS1i.. though the MS1i's are considered not that "aggressive" compared to other Grado's.

By the way, the Mini Cubes/Mini^3 in general, are a touch warm and rolled off on top from neutral.

even if i have the mini^3 and I like it on my SR80 and I have borrowed a P4 once

I like the warm, laid back-ness off the P4 paired with the aggressive grados. it kinda neutralizes it without sounding neutral. ang labo but I think you get what I mean :)

If it is mid centric then aggressive and fast decays on the highs, I think a warm amp will just add more to the mids?? How about something more on the lows??

^ I agree, get an amp with a warmer sig. the TTVJ Millet or even the fiio E5 with bass boost on seem to work well.

i've heard the LDI+ has a good synergy with them, but don't have one.

from the ones i have, LDMkIII with ef95's and DaredMP5 with stock rubies,
i prefer the LDMKIII's more with my grados. makes them shine more, but tames
the mids into something silkier

I think tubes does mate really well with Grados, I had the MKII before and the combomade the grado lusher and less harsh.

x2. FiiO E5 works really well with the Grados plus the bass boost. :) My SR60+E5 combo has been with me for a longest time now. Although, not getting much eartime at the moment. :)

second that grado sr80 plus mk2 was a great match, then mk2 with mullard tubes and a hf2 and both combo's were excellent.

It seems the mkII is the winner.

I have the sr80i and jdlabs  p4v2 and the sound is neutral.

I tried it with the mini3 last friday for a few minutes and found the mini3 added to the agressiveness of the grado.

I am trying it now with the fiio e5 with medium bass bost And it seems good. I like this combo better. Serves my pl30 iems very well also.

Now, where do should we go to sample the mkII?  ;D ;D

Thanks to Ghtanalyst for starting this thread. I myself was wondering what's a good amp to pair up with my 80i. I have the FiiO E5 but I prefer using the cans without it to get me accustomed to the sound of the cans first.
