I read a bunch of reviews.  Let's see how good I interpret:

Most people said they were very forward, and sometimes harsh in the highs.  One person said the mids and highs were good after burn-in.  Most people said they were light on bass, and would even distort when the bass was deep and fairly strong.  But a couple people said the bass would be much better when connected to an amp.  So it seems like not the best bet for portable use, but maybe OK when amped.

HD438 is better + it has velour pads and it is very light on the head. maybe a bit too light on my head that it feels like it'll fall of easily. I haven't heard the 448 yet but I am a little bit curious

I have the HD448,I'm no expert but I would like to share my experience with this can. I use it mainly in my office for editing videos. It has good isolation, it can easily block out the construction noise from the adjacent office and it is very comfortable. It has good detail overall, great for voices. Bass is kind of light but present and controlled. While the highs are also very crisp though not as detailed as the M50, which I use at home. Soundstage is about what you would expect from a closed can. I feel inclined to believe the box which claims neutral sound, its certainly more neutral than my px-100ii which is very warm, plus I feel that it is also brings out more detail.

i believe 448 and 428 have same freq responses., pde mong bilhin ung 428 then mod.. you can open the cans. then you will see a mesh there, coveing 3 holes., ung sakin, inopen ko ung isang butas para bass extend and also add tad bit of soundstage.. but you can also cover it with dampening cloths and mesh depende kung ano gusto sa sq..

recommend ko 428 + mod kung gusto mo mas mura.. kung may pera k nmn 448 which haz flat response, extension cable and a useless carrying pouch..

break in is necessary... atleast 100 hours

If it helps, I have the HD428 and I'm using them right now.  They say it's just an HD448 in a cheaper case.  Here are my impressions about it (apologies for lack of terminology as I'm kind of new to this hobby):

Bass is light, it's there but it's not overwhelming (boomy or bloated) which is very good for what I usually listen to.  Mids are good and highs are thankfully not sibilant.  Good detail and separation but lacking in imaging and soundstage.

It's a closed design so it won't leak much.  Isolation is acceptable.  It's also very comfortable, I wear mine for hours on end (6-10 hours straight, sometimes even longer).

The first principle is not to fool yourself, and you are the easiest person to fool.

I'm not a mod but please post in english so that non-filipino readers could understand as well ;)

the freq response doesnt determine the SQ. neither do sound graphs. only humans could properly tell you what kind of sound or sound sig a speaker/headphone could do ;)

so which is better, 428 or 438? I was able to try on the 438 in powermac but it lacks clamping force to bring out the bass

ive owned the 448's for 5 months now and selling them this week for a few particular reasons.

1.) i love bass and these cans dont fully bring out the bass they should, according to my expectations.
2.) the highs can be a bit harsh with a few songs, if not, alot of songs.
3.) these cans dont have a strong clamping force, these cans would easily fall off if you headbanged (for the metal heads) or swayed your head a little bit too hard (and yes this did happen to me haha)
4.) ive head better for the price -4.4k-(cant remember tho which particular can hehe... :D )

they are an overall good pair of headphones and will recommend if youre not a bass lover, but they just dont meet my standards (for bass especially)

hope this helps :D
