Beyer DT-1350 Tesla
« on: February 20, 2011, 10:40:58 PM »
I saw several places where these new 'phones were supposed to be $299 U.S., and normally being the shy type when it comes to risking my money, I ordered them right away from B&H because they listed the price as $199.  I got the confirmation for my order, so unless they cancel I guess I have a bargain??

If these tame the T50p treble a bit, I'd say they're an excellent deal (Keeping in mind that the t50p still sells for about $300). Plus I think they look better.

they're supposed to be the studio/monitoring/DJ counterpart of the T50p right?

^ yeah I agree and it's actually one of my gripes with some Beyers, on the T50p's case i fill the treble is a detached.

In Beyer's video blurb they really stress the "purity" of the sound, which makes me suspect a strong midrange and falloff on the ends.  I don't know how that relates to a modern monitor 'phone, but I'm hoping for a sound that's not bass-heavy or harsh on the high end.

How many weeks will you be receiving it? :). Planning to order 1 also, but in the mean time :D.

I ordered on Sat. Feb. 19, so it could arrive anywhere from end of Feb. to March 10.  I will post first impressions right away then more later.  I am very curious about burn-in factors, if any.  Supposedly the Tesla mechanism is all or mostly metal, which should not change much after playing.  But we will see.

Yeah, I took a long look at the T50p and the Sennheiser too.  But the instant(!) I saw the $199 u.s. price for the 1350 at B&H I ordered it immediately, just in case they made a mistake (heh).

The blurbs I heard said this is more like a "monitor" headphone, made for maximum "pure" sound and efficiency, to play louder with a given signal.  But nobody anywhere has reviewed an actual sample, so I don't know.  I'm hoping at least that it has a good balanced sound for music, so all those other qualities will be just extra perks.

Argh... so many headphones. I hope this is not as treble-happy as the t50p  :D

I watched that video with the Beyerdynamic rep three times.  Every time he said "really pure" sound, I cringed, fearing the worst.  Still, I couldn't resist the $199 deal.

Which reminds me of a funny event - about 15 years ago in Akron Ohio the police set up a sting operation for stolen goods, and they arrested several people.  One of the guys they pinched had been there before, so the cops asked him "Didn't you know this was a sting?"  And he replied "Yes, but I couldn't resist the prices."

And that's the way I feel sometimes when something "really new" comes along.  But who knows, I might get lucky....

I put my faith in Beyer. I haven't met a Beyerdynamic I did not like in some way.
