AKG, now made in China

You are right - these phones are now produced in China to lower the production costs.

To be sure that the quality standards remain the same our quality department is in close cooperation with the chinese factory.

As the production in China started AKG did "photoshop" their product pictures because of the fact they are not longer produced in Austria and we wanna be honest to all our Customers.

But all of your mentioned phones are still 100 % serviceable here in Austria and worldwide - and as I told before our quality control is in close cooperation with the chinese factory to comply the high quality standard of our products.

A part of the Akg's Headphones are made in China.

I got a K271 MKII for a week and I was scared 'cause i didn't see "Made in Austria" on the left speaker.

But on the web site, "Made in Austria" had been erased from the headphones. Now I'm quiet with it.

Actually, the K81 I got from Erwin, which was bought April 2009 according to his receipt, is also made in China.
No source, no amps, no IEMs, no headphones. Just music. 8)

My K271 MKII (an incredibly underrated headphone - but that's another story) still says "Made in Austria" on the circle at the side... I don't really mind if they're made in China though, it happens to most companies eventually. Still feels solid enough.

yep, mine's written it is from Austria as well.

as long as my phones are all authentic, and well-built, kahit pinoy pa ang gumawa, OK yan. =)

I can't help but wonder if we're witnessing AKG's further decline... should we expect to see Q701 knock-offs soon at TPC? :-\

It is a double edged sword I think Arnold. Sure by moving to China in all probability everything will be the same since the production blueprints, technology, TQM etc will all be AKG only operated by Chinese firms and yes it is all about cost.

But unlike the Iphone which was always built in China from day 1, and the ipod etc.. the AKG does not have brand saturation and the hif fi elite to tend to lean heavily, at least traditionally, to old world manufactured products as an assurance of quality such as Germany, Austria, UK and US.

If you based your price on a legacy of quality and part of your marketing is having where you have built the product proudly displayed on your external cup, then moving to China is a dent in that philosophy that makes everything seem a little hollow.

Once that happens its not about actual quality, it is about perception of quality.

does it matter where it was made?
i think most electronics and household devices/appliances now is made from china...even mobile phones.
maybe 80% are all made in china.
it is not that bad, for me, as long as they respect production, quality and sales of the original company who gave them the job.

what really matters is that it should passed a high standard quality...
and  not be copied for black/gray market.
PHILIPS-liciously great!!!

Remember the name Foxconn. There's a high chance that whetever gadget you're holding was made by them.

OEM? Here's your OEM king right here (not the tpc OEM, but the legit OEM heh heh).

What happened to foxconn? I just know it as a mobo manufacturer 5-6 years ago

They're actually the world's largest maker of electronic components including making, among other things, the ipod and iphone.  :)
