For those who want things looking a little different, i'd definitely wait for these:

I'm glad i didn't get an M50 just yet  ;D

White version? :P  Yummy.

Just curious (and a little OT), but say you wanted to change the color of your headphones... is it possible to just dismantle the manifold and spray paint it or something?

well in theory it would be possible. but, for example, in the M50, if you were to dismantle it and spray some paint on, assuming you protected the leather and wire, there would have to be several layers of coats, and also a few layers of clear protective coats. but spray painting it might interfere with the swiveling cup function of the M50s and you might ruin the joints where the cups connect to the headband.

another thing is because the M50s are designed to swivel and fold, the paint at the joints might begin to crack after a few weeks or even days. not to mention youd have to make the coat even throughout all parts of the headphone. so, i guess it is possible, but you might ruin your cans for life. :-\

Listening to the M50 again on my rotation is like falling in love all over again. Portable, easy to drive, awfully fun sounding and a non-picky performer. The fact that it's a pretty common entry choice into headphilia doesn't give it much esoteric appeal, but there's a reason why it's so readily recommendable.

That said, I can see where the treble complaints are coming from, and it seems to be an effect of the v-shaped curve. Cranking the volume to bring the mids up causes it to sound noticably hot.

ATH-M50 User here as well but I only use it when playing with my guitar mult-fx. For audio listening I have my SJ33 and an Aerial7 tank.

Has anyone tried looking for replacement pads for this model locally?  Where can we buy one?

I know we all love our m50s, but I would like to dare ask what the next phones would be in terms of sonic improvement, one that would not break the bank?

I was actually thinking of getting an M50 some time in the future as a "fun" headphone... then I heard bro Aldo's AD2000, and I was sold. :D

I may have to recable my m50s, it is losing the sound on the left ear when the plug moves around.

my only gripe in terms of comfort is it tends to get warm around the ears.

true. id take a 1 minute cool-down break every hour of listening with these cans. sometimes even every 15 minutes if the day is hot.
